PreK – K: Camping

This week’s books are all about camping. I have included some of favorite characters, as well as books about girls who are camping.

Duck, Duck, Dinosaur and the Noise at Night by Kallie George

This story follows two chicks and a dinosaur as they try to sleep outside without their mother. They keep hearing a scary noise and try to hide from it until they find a very simple explanation for the noise.

Fred and Ted Go Camping by Peter Eastman

This book is part of the “I can read it all by myself, Beginner Books” series. It tells about two dogs who go on a camping trip together. Each brings different items and does things differently from the other. However, they work together to make their trip a success.

Curious George Goes Camping by Margret & H.A. Rey

The little monkey goes camping but is not much help setting up at the camp ground. He gets in trouble and runs into the woods. There he finds more trouble be getting sprayed by a skunk, but he also puts out a forest fire.

Angelina and Henry by Katharine Holabird

Angelina Ballerina goes camping with her uncle and cousin. At first, she balks at all the hiking and setting up, but then she gets into the spirit by exploring the woods. However, Angelina and her cousin get lost and scared in the woods when it gets dark. Angelina protects her cousin until the uncle finds them.

Olivia Goes Camping by Alex Harvey

This is a “Ready to Read Level 1” book about Olivia taking her friend, Francine, on a family camping trip. Francine does not want to get dirty and wet, but Olivia tells her the secrets to a great camping trip

Ladybug Girl and Bingo by David Soman & Jacky Davis

Ladybug Girl is a little girl with a great imagination who likes to pretend to be sort of a superhero. She goes camping with her family and her dog, Bingo. The trip includes canoeing, star-gazing, and firefly-watching. When Bingo runs off after a fox, Ladybug Girl goes on a great imaginary adventure to find him, just feet where her family is setting up camp.

Sally Goes to the Mountains by Stephen Huneck

This book is written from the perspective of the dog, Sally. It tells about all of the things the dog imagines she will see when she goes camping with her owner. This book has big simple picture that are great for showing during a group story time.
